The Tacky Zone
The Do's and Don't of Bridal Trends

Hopefully by now, you've gotten to know me well enough that one of the things I love most is injecting the couple's personality into the wedding.  There's very little that strikes me as odd when it speaks to the couple's personality and desires.  The last few weeks, we've been covering some of the best trends that have that come out of the past year in terms of wedding fashion and decor.  In the process of hunting down some great examples and inspiration for you, I've come across some serious "OMG! Did someone really do that on purpose?"

80's wedding via ruffled- Trendy or Tacky?
Now I'm a trend junkie. And maybe I'm dating myself, but I've worn shoulder pads, multiple slouchy socks at once, neon, peplums, way too over sized flannel shirts with other grungy layers, and bell bottoms when they were cool the first time.  The tricky part about trends is that you don't know their bad until way after the fact.  Diana was the epitome of everything royal, regal, and stylish.  Today, we wonder why your shoulders and hair had to be the same height in order to look stylish?  Just like the Anti-bride can easily become Bridezilla, trendy can quickly become tacky; or worse tasteless.  Here's the top three that linger somewhere in that very scary place between trendy and tasteless; The Tacky Zone.  (cue Twilight Zone theme song humming in your head)

Disclaimer: The photos and opinions stated here are strictly for comedic purposes.  They are extreme examples of trends gone wrong or taken waaaaaay too literally.  They in no-way reflect our opinions of incorporating fun elements (in the right way) to any party or function which you may have thought to include something of the like. As one article read in  OffbeatBride "tacky is in the eye of the beholder and there is always going to be someone who sees things different than you."

#3 Cake Toppers

Depending on the cake you choose and the overall feeling of your wedding, cake toppers might not even be a part of your day.  In case they are though:

Do:  Choose a topper reflective of your personalities. Cutesy, Classy or Theme related they can add memories to your album.

Don't: Add something that grosses or weirds your guests out or is overly suggestive and/or potentially offensive.

(Now I'm all for the "Signature Drink."  If Sex on the Beach is your choice, so be it, but come on!  Do you really want grandma and gramps knowing why you're not wearing white? )

#2 Bridal Gown

Do:
Wear a gown that suits your style and figure.  Sexy styles like the illusion trend are really big and if you can pull it off, go for it!

Don't:  Forget to leave room for the imagination!  This goes, for brides grooms and bridal parties!

Oh yeah!  And while I love a "trash the dress" session- Maybe wait until after the ceremony?  Just a suggestion.  (all of the above images via HEAVY.com)

#1 Themes
We've already talked about how a theme can pull a wedding together to create a great memory for the couple and guests alike.
Do:
Use a theme that speaks to your personalities.  Rustic can be great for a casual, laid back couple.  Vintage is awesome for antiquers.  Woodsy is perfect the outdoorsy couple, and boho or shabby chic can transition any ecclectic pair.

Don't:
Take a theme too literally.  A shared Renaissance love does not mean you have to throw your own Medieval Times Ren-Fair.   Your wedding photos should remind you of the most important moment of your life- not a Halloween Party.

These are just few. There were too  many to put in one post.  I'll actually be back next week with more bad bridemaids and reception trends.

Rachel
