10 Things To Do Once You Are Engaged

First, a Congratulations is in order! This is not only a special and unique time in one’s life; it is also a somewhat hectic and whirlwind process. However, do not worry! The lovely interns here at Paisley Events are here to help you so that even in the moments after you say yes and the ring is slipped on to your finger it can be as stress-free as possible. You should be able to just relax and enjoy this special time and not worry about all the planning and let that to-do list get out of control.

Therefore here is a list of the top 10 things you should do as soon as you get engaged.

1. Get A Manicure
You have this new sparking, absolutely stunning accessory adorning your left hand now, and its guaranteed to attract a lot of attention here in the near future. Whether it is from the attention of all of those around (“Oh, let me see that ring!”) or the numerous pictures to be taken in the near future, it is important that your hand looks just as nice. You would not want to embarrass yourself with chipped, and unpolished nails. Therefore you should get a manicure, regardless if it is from a professional or an at-home polish, to make sure that your hands and nails are in tip-top shape.

2. Settle On A Budget
You need to decide upon a budget and rather early on. Whether it’s you, your fiancé, his parents or yours, it needs to not only be discussed, but finalized to the last cent in order to maintain positive relations with everyone. No one wants to feel pressured or uneasy with all the planning, and having a clear, set budget is one way of decreasing potential tension that is sure to ensue.

3. Sign Up For Sale Alerts
There are so many details that go in to a wedding, from the accessories to the honeymoon packages. However it is important to keep in mind that all things go on sale! So make sure that you sign up for any alerts that might be of use so that you can save as much money as possible.

4. Insure Your Ring
Make Sure You Do This! God forbid anything ever happen to that now precious accessory, but accidents do happen and because of that this is a necessity! If your fiancé has not done it already, make sure this is done immediately. The jeweler where it was purchased should refer you to certified insurers. Also, make sure to ask the jeweler for an appraisal slip because this will be used to determine its value. Your fiancé spent a lot of time and money picking out the perfect ring; therefore you shouldn’t risk any potential damages or loosing it. I cannot stress this enough, make sure you get your ring insured!

5. Sign Up For Pinterest
As you can probably tell from most of the other posts, Pinterest is a huge source of inspiration! It has pictures and ideas from everything from food and fitness to wedding and décor. It is by far the biggest resource for wedding ideas. Everything from your dream dress, to DIY favors, to mouth-watering cakes and everything in between can be found. It is by far a great tool and can be considered a brides best friend!

6. Have ‘The Money Talk’ With Your Fiancé
The wedding budget conversation is not the only money centered conversation necessary. You are creating a family now and you two will also need to hash out all the logistics that come along with merging bank accounts. The saying “what’s yours is mine” is not as simple as it sounds.

7. Sign Up For Trunk Show Alerts
Everyone dreams up their perfect dress for their wedding day. Whether it’s princess-like ball gown or a sleek and elegant evening gown, your checkbook will thank you for signing up for local trunk shows. By following your local bridal boutique on Facebook and referring to a regional bridal magazine for a list of the designer trunk shows in your area, you will be able to go, see and touch all the most recent designer gowns – straight off the runway.

8. Choose A Diet Plan & Start It
It is common for brides to want to look their absolute best on their wedding day. Not only do they want to look great in all the pictures that will forever be timeless reminders of the day that they said “I do”, they also want to feel their absolute best. To do this however, many plan to lose weight. Keep in mind; the worst thing to do is to wait until the last minute and crash diet. Therefore you should start as soon as possible. If you plan on dieting you need to pick an appropriate and well-fitting plan and make sure to stick with it! This is the best way to not only achieve your ultimate goal, but to look and feel your best.

9. Pick A Location
The location – city and venue – is the most important decision you will make in the wedding planning process. Everyone will have an opinion about where you should get married and where the reception should be held. Therefore it is important to get this discussion started as soon as possible.

10. Hire A Planner
It does not matter how great of a planner you are or that you are extremely Type-A and organized. The wedding planning process is hectic and a job in itself. Very few people have the time and patience necessary for such a grueling process. Which is why you should leave it to the professionals, like those here at Paisley Events! J You want your wedding day to be relaxing and stress-free. Without a planner you are almost guaranteed to be stressed and worried about all the details on your big day instead of focusing on the more important things at hand. Hiring a professional who does this for a living, allows them to worry about the details not only throughout the planning process, but on the day of as well. Trust me, it will be money well spent!

I hope this helps and makes the beginning stages of the engagement and wedding planning process as easy as possible! Once again, Congratulations! This is a very special time so make sure you stop and enjoy the moment!

13 Things Your Wedding Planner Won’t Tell You!

My bride, Evie, sent me this article from the Readers Digest! It is perfect! I felt the need to immediately re-post it! Happy readying!

13 Things Your Wedding Planner Won’t Tell You

Wedding planners and pros from across the country reveal the messy side of making your wedding day unforgettable. Here's what they wish brides knew.

By Amy Zerello

1. I keep secrets.
At one wedding I planned, the cake went missing after the bride and groom cut it. The bride soon asked where the cake was. Turns out the servers had taken it upon themselves to eat it! We cut the pieces smaller and the bride never knew. Keeping things quiet is the secret behind making the bride think the wedding was flawless.

2. It stresses me out...
when the mother of the groom (it’s always the mother of the groom) steps in at the rehearsal to take over and change the plans. And it’s always the mother of the groom who hasn’t contributed a dime or offered even an hour of her time prior to the wedding who acts in this manner

3. I hate feeling devalued. When a potential client begins to nickel and dime me, I know they do not understand what it is I will be doing for them.

4. Don't forget the tax and service charge. Many couples overlook the “plus plus” when planning a menu. Everything has a tax and service charge, and it really adds up, trust me!

5. I still cry at weddings. Being part of the family for that short amount of time is truly rewarding. It’s when I’m sent baby photos that I know I had a real impact on a couple.

6. Your parents are paying?
I hope you understand you may not get what you want!

7. I'll go to great lengths to make sure your wedding is perfect.
Your wedding is my job and I’ll do everything I can to make it memorable, including walking miles to a florist in Jamaica to correct the $700 bouquet that arrived to you spray-painted purple.

8. We don't wear headsets and heels.
We know the importance of comfortable shoes. People envision The Wedding Planner and think this job is all about glitz and glamour. We’re not Jennifer Lopez.

9. Just because you planned your own destination wedding...
doesn’t mean you can do my job better than I can. Yes, you may have found lower rates on Orbitz, but you don’t have access to the contract and package perks that I’m able to offer to my brides.

10. You’ve only known each other for 4 months?!
Can I get 100% upfront?

11. I do manual labor and other dreadful tasks.
I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve been on my hands and knees, sweating. I sometimes have to count the napkins and linens before they go back to the rental company. I’m talking dirty, smelly napkins, with food, gum and whatever else is on them. Talk about gross!

12. Flowers cost a great deal of money.
For the most part, they are flown around the world to their end user. Their prices are affected by jet fuel costs, inclement weather and by the fact that they’re living things that are not manufactured by machines and simply “cranked out.” Likewise, they don’t jump into their vases!

13. You can always elope! It's never too late to run away and have a relaxing wedding. You'll have great memories to share with your friends and family once you're home.

Throw Away the Bouquet? NO WAY!

As most of you reading this blog well know, a wedding requires a lot of time and money in order to have the perfect day- included in that are the flowers. Brides, grooms, and event planners focus much of their attention on this portion of the wedding because flowers serve as the “pop” of color, they are the aroma to the room, they are the aesthetic aspect to a ceremony—in all, the flowers hold much importance. From centerpieces, to boutonnières, to a bride’s bouquet, so much is spent in picking the “perfect” arrangements.
So the question now begs itself, what is there to do with these flowers after the ceremony and reception are over? I’m here to tell you that no matter what people may tell you, your bridal bouquet holds a great significance and can forever be a memory of your wedding day- if you just don’t throw away the bouquet.
Here are some fun and fabulous ways to go about saving your bridal bouquet to cherish for years to come.

Wedding Planning Professionals....What Are They Exactly?

Ready or not?  Here we come!  Here goes our impromptu explanation of the different types of Wedding Planning Professionals you might encounter as you think about your big day.

Believe it or not, there are three entirely different types of consultants and not one of them is like the other.  Each type of consultant has his or her own specialty, though a single individual may be able to offer you a range of consultancy packages and allow you to choose which services you'd like.  Though some people use the titles “consultant” and “coordinator” interchangeably, there is a subtle difference between them.

There are three different types of consultants:
  1. Wedding Directors
  2. Bridal Coordinators
  3. Bridal Consultants
Wedding Directors

First, let’s talk about wedding directors, or, in other words, “day of” wedding coordinators. These consultants are present for the rehearsal, ceremony, and reception. This person makes sure that the couple has everything they need to get down the aisle on time. He or she may also take care of some details at the reception. However, aside from meeting with clients during the rehearsal and on the day of the wedding, wedding directors will probably have few other consultations with their clients.

When working with wedding directors, clients are responsible for making all the arrangements with vendors and suppliers.  The director is responsible for pulling all the elements together cohesively on the wedding day, but it's the client's job to ensure that those elements are all there!

Many wedding directors charge a flat fee for their time. Of the three types of consultants discussed in this post, wedding directors usually spend the least amount of time in their clients' presence before the wedding. A wedding director is responsible for ensuring that the terms of a client’s contract are carried out on the wedding day and ultimately giving the wedding party a wedding to enjoy, not a chaotic or stressful situation to manage.

Bridal Coordinators

A bridal or wedding coordinator helps to plan as many of the details for the rehearsal, ceremony, reception, and honeymoon as the couple allows. Usually, couples who don’t have the necessary time or knowledge to plan a wedding hire bridal coordinators. In addition, brides who are new in town, have full-time jobs, or are going to school often choose to hire this kind of consultant.

Because a bridal coordinator knows where to find the best vendors and suppliers, couples understand that they must pay for such a valuable service. The initial consultation is usually provided to clients free of charge, because at this initial meeting, the coordinator is merely gathering information from the couple. People in the industry often refer to this type of consultant-couple relationship as Partial Planning, because the professional is partially involved in the planning from start to finish.

Bridal Consultants

A true bridal consultant, or wedding planner, is a full time advisor.  Consultants sit with couples and advise them on what they need to do before the wedding. For example, their services may include sending reminders to their clients, or providing a written wedding plan. Bridal consultants will often recommend vendors and suppliers during a consultation. A couple can choose to schedule only one appointment with a consultant, or they can meet with their consultant regularly. A consultant is usually with his or her clients from the moment they are hired until the couple leaves for a honeymoon. The relationship between consultant and client is often extremely close.

I hope this information was helpful! See you soon!
