Please NOT Those! Let's try These?

Bridesmaids Gone Bad!
How to keep your friend's speaking to you after the wedding.

A few weeks ago I mentioned the scene in Sex in the City that suggested you might be an Anti-Bride.  This week I'd like bring up another one of my favorite wedding scenes in movies.  The scene that could suggests your a Bridezilla- the moment in 27 Dresses where Katherine Heigl opens a closet of, well, this!

Aimed to be a moment of jest at the best buds of the brides who have to be supportive of their decisions, the scene reminded us all of a sad reality that truly exists.  While we understand and believe that every bride wants and should have all eyes on her on their big day, that's no reason to make your besties look busted.

Here's a few hints that your bridesmaids may not speak to after your wedding because of the dress you've chosen:

The accessories are equally bad, I mean, memorable as the dress.

Whether we're talking shoes or jewelry, accessorizing can complete any look.  There are some exceptions, though
Instead of these:

Fascinators and hats might be all the rage, but they can get a little too costume like.  Parasols in pictures might be cute, but not for a substitute for a bouquet.

Let's try:
Halos or headbands for hair accessories

For a different accessory to hold for photos, clutches dual as a great bridesmaid gift too!

For a new twist on florals, take a cue from the mismatched bridesmaid trend that's become a big hit.  Try having your girls all hold different blooms. What a great way not to have  choose just a few favorite flowers!

It matches any pattern you've seen your Grandmother wear or decorate with.

You know me by now.  I'm a sucker for a fun fashion trend, and I think prints are going to be big this year.    But instead of these:

Let's try:
breaking up a sea of stripes or vertigo worthy florals with a solid bodice or cardigan.  The look will enhance your color scheme and your gown!

Or, you can mix prints of the same size and color family.  Keeping prints simple and in black and white is always classy, and less overwhelming in pictures too.  And of course, trying not to match the scenery helps...

It's a dress you can actually wear again (If you're an exotic dancer.)
You can do your friends a favor and let them have a sexy, figure flattering dress that they may, in fact use again.

But instead of these:

Let's try:
Ruching and flowy fabrics.  They always provides pretty, feminine, very alluring, and very forgiving fits.

One shoulder and halter necklines work with most body types, while lace and illusion details add a subtle sexy look.

So, if your worried that your 18 year old sister who just got a gig modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch's summer catalog (this actually happened to a friend of mine, eek!) is going to look hotter than you, fear not!  Trust me, all eyes will be on you.  But if your still nervous, a bad dress won't help the situation. Making the girl look fabulous will only help you shine brighter since the'l be standing proud right next to you.

Sunday Styles

Fashion Trend #3

Illusions of Grandeur

Along with last week's gorgeously bare backs, this trend was all about creating a magical moment gown with just a little bit of sheer fabric.  Sheer fabrics have added a touch of sexy while still remaining lady-like.  A simple addition that literally looks like nothing, has become a beautiful addition to fronts, backs, overs, and
unders.

I love the way layers have been added to create entirely new dresses.  Layers have created sleeves, overlays, and I love the sparkly body veils and detachable skirts give you both the princess and pop star look all in one.  I may have had two dresses, but I didn't have a two-fer like these.

Thanks to designers like Claire Pettibone, Justin Alexander and a personal favorites and Veluz Reyes, intricate bead work has become a walking mural.  A simple satin sheath has turned into a canvas worth of hanging in a museum.  I ever get tired of looking at these artsy, aisle worthy works of art.  I hope this trend never dies!

Sunday Styles: Its all about the Back!

Fashion Trend #4

Making an exit- It’s Back!!!

Thank you Bella Swan and Carolina Herrara!  One of my absolute favorite trends to emerge in bridal gowns are backs.  We’re not talking buttons and bustles here.  The back is back!  As a guest we spend a good deal of time staring at all of you lovely bride’s backsides.  After you dazzle us with your gorgeousness as you enter, what a better way to keep us entertained then some unexpected beauty to gaze at while your spouse gazes deep into your eyes.  Maids don’t despair while the spotlight should always be on the bride a few designers felt the love for you too in this category.  Whether illusion or boldly bare, here are some of my favorite “sexy backs.”

And lets not forget our favorite ladies!

Sunday Styles: Color

Sunday Styles: Color

Reese Definatly looked Pretty in Pink!

It’s already December, where has the time gone!  2013 brides, you can start to see the light as your big day is approaching!  I thought it would be fun to start the countdown to the new year early, so for the next  five weeks we’ll count down the top trends in wedding fashion and décor for 2012 in Sunday Styles and Tuesday Trends.  Flop or Fly? Fridays we’ll take a look at the ideas and see how they will evolve, or not, for the new year.  To kick this week off:

#5- Color

Vera Wang dresses in Black!

From rainbow bridesmaids to colored wedding gowns, color schemes have become to mean more than just your florals and table linens.  Subtle hints of color are trending in bridal gowns for spring already.  Vera Wang dared to be bold with her black collection. And some bridesmaids created the rainbow as brides chose to challenge traditional matching colored gowns. What do you think?  Will color be the new white and the new black?
