Can The Wedding Dress Be Cropped?
Crop Top Trends by Tova Weisel
There is no doubt that crop tops
are trending on the runway in 2014. Last week’s Met Gala red carpet saw the
upper abs of Anne Hathaway in Calvin Klein, Rihanna in Stella McCartney, and
Emma Stone in Thakoon.
And who couldn’t fall in love with this orchid and
coral silk look from Monique
Lhuillier’s Spring 2014 collection?
This year girls are opting for the
crop top to perfect their fun and flirty ensembles rather than the usual tank
top.
However, does the crop top
trend translate from the red carpet to the real bride? Any runway model is
going to look like the perfect, trendy woman in a crop top but in the real
world, where the average bride is a size 14, will this trend stick? For most
women, the belly is not the most comfortable place to be showing off on your
wedding day. Nevertheless, wedding gowns with see-through panels, such as this
one by Pnina Tornai, are in high demand.
Brides want that little bit of
sexiness without revealing too much. But how much is too much? Bypassing the
sheer paneling and going straight for bare might seem inappropriate for a
church wedding. However, for the more non-traditional bride, a two piece
wedding gown might give your wedding that fresh and relaxed vibe. This adorable
bride chose to salute her career as a ballerina with this fun and edgy crop top
and tutu combination.
We cannot forget to give a
shout out to Indian brides who have been rocking the original crop top since as
far back as 2800 BC
The crop top bridal gown could be streamlined like this one from Houghton Bride:
Or it could be textured and paired with a ball gown skirt
like this Theia gown:
Whether it is structured
and sophisticated or flowy and free-spirited, the crop top seems to add just
the right touch of rebelliousness to the big day. What do traditional brides
think of splitting up the most important dress of their lives? Are two pieces
better than one?
