For your rustic chic wedding what is more perfect than to decorate your beautiful day with mason jars! There are SO many great ways you can decorate mason jars and SO many ways you can use them. From using mason jars as light fixtures, center pieces, gifts, flower vases, drink holders, their uses are unlimited! Having mason jars at your wedding can also be as easy as taking a plain mason jar and put daisies in it, or you can make it a fun DIY project for you and your bridesmaids. Let`s look at some of the ways people have used them in their weddings!

As you can see there are a ton of uses for mason jars and this isn’t even the half of it!! Mason jars are a great DIY project, they can be as simple as you want it or as all out creative as you want it to be! Also, the mason jars themselves you can find cheap, so depending on how you decorate them or what you put in them, they can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want!

Will Rustic Get Rusty?

So we've determined that anything goes for your gown.  It should speak to you, compliment you, make you feel special. While trends like illusion backs and necklines will be around for a while thanks to their sheer beauty (no pun intended,) and lace will never go out of style, what about wedding themes?  Will the rustic trend get rusty?  Is vintage going to look like your Grandma's wedding?  Will shabby chic just look shabby?  When you celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary will your photos stand out like shoulder pads and Hammer pants?

Hopefully, it won't.  If you do a theme right by mixing together touches of the trend throughout your day and the theme says something about you and your beloved's personality and style, you can't go wrong.  Just like wedding gowns, theme or no theme, the important thing is to choose everything that speaks to you as a couple.  A great place to start is the venue.  Marta Segal at the Huffington Post had a great article called Don't Judge the Marriage by the Wedding that I think says it all.  She also did a great face-off of 2012 trends and what they will turn into.  I'll recap the venue trends:

So what's the difference, right?  Both big open spaces, lots of dirt that your Badgley Mischka's will sink into, both look great with cafe lights, and both are great for weddings big or small.  The difference (which I'm a little sad about since I'm a DIY junkie) is that all the big companies have adopted all you crafty bride's hard work and created collections inspired by you.  The ranch trend, as Segal put it, is a little more "Dior than DIY."  A little ritzier feeling, a little more pulled together and matching, a little more glamorous- I guess you can't go wrong with that!  Keep the burlap and lace but add some crystal and fine china to serve your sliders on instead.  Rather than the down home, denim casual feeling of a rustic wedding, think black tie at the barn.

Traditional Ballroom to Vintage Glam

Okay.  I have to admit, this might be my favorite venue trend!  I actually tried to incorporate this look into my wedding, but the roof of my raw space caved in and I had to go rustic instead.  A traditional ballroom, as beautiful as it looks above, wasn't our style when we were planning our wedding.  What was our style was the raw space, exposed brick, high ceilings look that warehouse weddings provide.  Think the Foundry in LIC, The Green Room or Tobacco Warehouse Brooklyn.  They are veritable blank slates to create any kind of look, but they look particularly great with the Old Hollywood type of glam added to them.

If your wedding obsessed like us here at Paisley, you've no doubt caught an episode or two of My Fair Wedding.  If your lucky, I hope you caught one of my favorite episodes with the Zebra Bride.  This is a perfect example of when themes go wrong.  The problem was not the concept, but the execution.

Themes can be scary. For a long time the word theme evokes images of my two year old's Bubble Guppies birthday extravaganza.  In the wedding world, they are wonderful for injecting the personality of the couple into a wedding or event, and setting a cohesive tone for the occasion.  But, they can quickly get out of hand and make what should be a timeless affair look tasteless.  If you want an idea of extreme wedding themes check out these here.

So why were themes so huge for 2012?  The answer is that when they are put together in the right way, the concept is never taken too literally. Whether the theme is centered around a color, a place, music, or movies when done the right way the concept is pulled together not through overkill of the idea, but with all the traditional elements that make up a perfect wedding.

The best theme weddings pulled together subtle hints and touches of the theme starting at the invitation.  They continued through all the way through the florals,  food, rentals, escort cards, place settings,and table settings all the way through to the venue.  All of them shared the same connection to the couple's personality offering relaxed, or colorful, laid back or chic and glamorous touches.




So what was the top theme of 2012?  We talked about classic and glamorous banquet hall wedding never going out style.  Vintage weddings offered a touch of femininity and nostalgia, and shabby chic was the DIY bride's dream trend.  But the number one wedding theme of the year had to be the Rustic Wedding!

There was just something about a burly cabin nestled in the woods with some lace and burlap table runners on fine white linen.  Surrounded by candlelight and lightened with baby's breath in mason jars the vision was just perfect for the New England outdoorsy couple.

The other end of the spectrum juxtaposed the the vast farmlands that we often overlook; the barn wedding.  Oh! How I love this look!  Contrasting rough old barn wood with soft lace and draping.  Cafe lights and chandeliers providing a glamorous light on what is normally a cold (and stinky) place.  The combination just works!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!  For those of you that celebrate I hope you had a wonderful day with the people you love most close to you.  

Lace was this weeks pick for a fashion trend but it has had a major impact on decor this year too.  However, there was a twist to this trend.  How you used depended on the #2 trend of 2012: the theme wedding.  Classic and formal still preside but this year we saw a trend toward building your wedding more than around a color scheme, but themes like modern, rustic, vintage, and shabby chic were all too common.  Lace was absolutely critical to creating them all.  Invitations, backdrops, escort cards, place settings, favors and even the cake wore lace this year.  Proving to be just as versatile in creating all of these looks, as it did for the gowns we saw this year, lace was the key part to creating the right theme.

As the economy brought out the craftiness of many you DIY brides, lace was an easy, elegant and affordable  decor option for all themes.  Rustic was the trend that came out top and used lace to soften up the rough edges, literally.  Mason jars wrapped in lace held candles and florals, while tables were draped in burlap with lace trim to add a feminine touch to the rough fabric.

Vintage looks used lace curtains as backdrops, linens, and lots of doilies to create a casual yet refined look.  Combined with vintage rental furniture and mismatched china, the lace added to refined and cohesive element to this style.  Shabby Chic was a fun way to combine the two themes mentioned above.
