RaRaRa… Let’s Go Team “I Do”

RaRaRa… Let’s Go Team “I Do”

Sweetheart Weddings

Now more often than not, these endearing unions are seen in the spotlight of Hollywood films, in our favorite childhood TV shows, and perhaps a few will pop up at a high school or college reunion. They are the high school and college sweethearts. Whether they are from the same hometown and grew up in the same preschool class, met each other in 7th grade algebra, or went to a sophomore year fraternity formal together, no one can refuse to admit how precious it is that they have survived the youthful years and transitioned into adulthood together. So when it comes time for them to say those two ever so meaningful words and be married, why not showcase their relationship and their sweetheart status?

On Campus or Off Campus?

This may sound more like a question that college freshman ask themselves when deciding where to live during their first years at University, but college sweethearts may choose to ponder the same when deciding where their wedding venue is to be located. Being from the same school is a very meaningful thing and with so many schools having beautiful campuses, why not showcase the thing that ties you and your husband-to-be together!? For example, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill there are many appealing venues for Tarheel sweethearts such as the Carolina Inn, the Franklin Hotel, The Carolina Club, and even The Old Well for a small ceremony or simply a picture session. As iconic images and landmarks of the University, guests will be able to learn about the history and beauty of the university while also seeing the surrounding campus and town of Chapel Hill.

Tradition

Each school has a unique mascot, song, chant, and oftentimes many other traditions that are associated with it. Here are some fun ideas to incorporate your high school or college traditions into your sweetheart wedding!

1. School Colors- While you may not want to go as deep as Duke Blue for your wedding colors, you could incorporate a different shade of your school’s colors or incorporate them in fun ways throughout the reception! The bridesmaid dresses or flowers are a great way to do this if you feel a strong tie and want to really go along with the theme!

2. The fight song- Have everyone sing the fight song at the reception! Most likely you will have many guests from your alma mater and they will want to all join in! (Rara Caro-lina-lina, rara caro-lina-lina…)

3. Celebrities- Have the school’s dance team, an acapella group, or even another “famous” group on campus make an appearance at your wedding. For example at UNC the “Clef Hangers” are the oldest a cappella group on campus and they made an appearance at a wedding I was at over the weekend, singing during the ceremony and the reception.

Brides have been seen wearing garters adorned with their school’s colors in lace, grooms with Kentucky blue cuff links, and even personalized cakes to represent where their love first began.
